A $20 million Hilton Garden Inn is under construction in Sudbury.

Ironwood Management Corp. is overseeing the 120-room structure for owner Urban Enterprises Corp from Calgary, Northern Ontario Business reports.

โ€œThe entire site has about 400 parking spaces to service the hotel and retail businesses there, including The Keg,โ€ Ironwood CEO Tyler McDiarmid said in an email to the business publication. โ€œThe Keg property is owned but not operated by Urban Enterprises. The hotel itself is actually a joint venture between Urban Enterprises and FHC Hotels & Resorts Inc.โ€

โ€œThere are lots of great things happening in Greater Sudbury, many of which are driving the marketโ€™s very high demand for hotel rooms,โ€ he wrote. โ€œWe see no immediate slowdown in the demand for hotel rooms and we believe the Hilton Garden Inn is well positioned to stay the market leader for a long time.

โ€œWe believe (the Hilton) will be the most impressive hotel in the market.โ€

The business publication reported that there had been talk that Hilton was interested in building along the new arena and casino in the Kingsway Entertainment District (KED).ย  However, a legal battle has delayed the project โ€“ and apparently sapped the chain’s interest.

McDiarmid didnโ€™t comment about the KED, confirming โ€œthis site (near the Keg) is the only development currently in Sudbury.โ€
