Construction activity in the City of Dryden reached the highest level in nine years last year, despite the pandemic with more than $13.5 million in permits.

Construction value for the year totaled $13,656,700, an increase of about $9 million from 2019, Chief Building Official Pamela Skillen said in a report to council. The breakdown included $10.1 commercial and $3.5 million in residential value.

The city’s 10-year summary shows 2011 was the best year with 77 permits totally nearly $33 million.

Highlights include commercial retrofits and re-developments such as Fountain Tire, 65 King Street properties, King Street Family Dental and the KDSB offices at 20 King Street.

Also, Skillen highlighted $1.6 million for four new homes alone.

She says the city will work “to keep this interest alive and dynamic, to provide new affordable housing and new business diversity in the years ahead. And from what is landing on my desk today, that is definitely what is happening.”
