The Ontario government is providing nearly $1.7 million to build 12 affordable housing units in Morrisburg.
The Morris Glen project includes three-storey townhouses – a total of 17 two-bedroom units with 12 as rent-geared-to-income housing and five market rent units. Four units will be fully accessible.
“Our government’s social services relief fund is providing immediate housing and homelessness relief in communities across Ontario,” said Steve Clark, minister of municipal affairs and housing. “Supporting innovative solutions like these housing units in Morrisburg is critical as we work to keep our most vulnerable safe and housed, both during the pandemic and into the future.”
The province has announced $25 million annually in the Homelessness Prevention Program designed to streamline operations so municipalities spend less time on paperwork.
Morrisburg’s funding is part of the province’s Social Services Relief Fund, which has provided over $1.2 billion of support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This $1.7 million investment into affordable housing in Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry will have an immediate impact, specifically in the Morrisburg area,” said MPP Nolan Quinn. “These 12 new rent-geared-to-income 2-bedroom units will improve the lives of residents across the region.
“The Morris Glen project is strategically located near grocery stores and other amenities which will also benefit our vulnerable population.”
