Brampton is looking for feedback on the future of city-owed land at Kennedy Road, Highways 410 & 407.

The area is identified in the city’s 2040 vision as the east anchor of ‘Uptown Brampton’, a 112-acre site that council says “has transformative potential to advance the area as a regional destination.”

An expression of interest (EOI) has been released, looking for comprehensive plans to develop the lands into a vibrant urban realm and walkable neighbourhood that includes a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose cricket facility.

Brampton site“The prospect of developing this site is incredibly exciting,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “It is virtually a blank slate to work with and the possibilities are endless.

“We have the chance to do something very special, and creating a legacy project with a world-class multipurpose cricket facility as the centerpiece is a once in a generation opportunity for the spirit of Brampton to shine brightly for decades to come.”

brampton renderingEOI timeline:

  • Q1 2023 – Publish Expression Of Interest
  • Q2 2023 – Evaluate Expression of Interest
  • Q3 2023 – Report back to Council

Currently, the area is the location of the CAA sports and entertainment facility (formerly the Powerade Centre). Redevelopment of the lands aligns with the city’s vision of advancing projects to create “complete communities”.

A 2019 technical analysis detailed the strategic opportunity to transform this large, developable site from a sports complex into a new urban core with major transit-oriented opportunities for high-density residential, business, leisure, and tourism.

Also, a survey is open for public feedback until Feb. 28.

“With Brampton’s explosive growth the city is continuing to build on this momentum by ensuring that transformative opportunities like the city lands project capture the needs, wants and spirit of our community,” Brampton CAO Marlon Kallideen said in a statement “Our main focus is engaging with residents, businesses, builders and local organizations throughout the process to ensure that we develop sustainably, ensure value for the taxpayer and enhance the quality of life in Brampton.”
