Eleven local projects are being honoured as part of the City of Oshawa 2022 Urban Design Awards.
“On behalf of the City of Oshawa, I am pleased to congratulate the recipients of the 2022 Urban Design Awards,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “We appreciate the significant contribution that architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, builders, renovators and many other individuals make to the appearance, livability and quality of life in our city and we thank everyone who submitted a nomination.”
The 2022 Urban Design Special Recognition Award has been awarded to CIMA+ for the design and development of the Lakeview Park Playground and Splash Pad located at 55 Lakeview Park Avenue.
Urban Design Award of Excellence winners:
- Brent Jeffrey, 31 Beatrice Street East (three-storey apartment building)
- Frère Du Nord, 45 – 47 Prince Street (renovation of existing two storey building to create residential flats above commercial space)
- Kiya Developments, 485 Bloor Street East (two two-storey stacked townhouse buildings)
- Panattoni Development Company Canada, 1121 and 1147 Thornton Road South (multi-unit industrial building)
- Shawenjigewining Hall, Ontario Tech University, 40 Founders Drive
- Anne Catholic Elementary School, Durham Catholic District School Board, 2465 Bridle Rd.
- Summers & Co. Developments and CPPI Group, 70 King St. E. (adaptive re-use of former Genosha Hotel for residential apartments with ground floor commercial units)
- The Bartlett Retirement Apartments, 550 Bond St. W.
- Trent University Durham GTA, 75 Thornton Rd. S. (five-storey academic and student residence building)
- University Towns, Podium Development Corp., 1800 Simcoe St. N. (four four-storey stacked townhouse buildings and one four-storey mixed-use residential/commercial building)
In addition to receiving an Award of Excellence from the City of Oshawa, the 10 winning projects are eligible to participate in the 2024 National Urban Design Awards (Tier II) Program administered by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
