The City of Toronto is inviting post-secondary students, faculty and staff to contribute their insights on housing challenges as part of the academic housing strategy, a key initiative under the HousingTO 2020-2030 action plan.
“Students, faculty and staff have the best advice when it comes to building housing to serve the academic community. I look forward to hearing from everyone on how we can align with the city’s housing targets and engage the provincial and federal governments to build more homes,” Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in a statement.
This outreach aims to address the housing issues faced by the academic community and ensure equitable access to affordable options for all residents. Engagement efforts will include an online survey, interactive campus sessions, focus groups and expert interviews to gather valuable feedback and develop innovative solutions.
Participants will have the chance to discuss current housing difficulties, explore strategies to enhance access and affordability, and share ideas with various levels of government and academic institutions to improve housing outcomes.
How to participate:
Post-secondary individuals are encouraged to complete an online survey, available until Friday, Nov. 1, on the City’s website. Additionally, in-person sessions will take place at eight college and university campuses across Toronto, with details available on the city’s Academic Housing Strategy webpage.
“This engagement represents a collaborative approach to finding solutions that benefit everyone,” said Councillor Gord Perks, chair of the planning and housing committee. Together, we can shape a strong and effective strategy through proactive and inclusive dialogue on post-secondary housing in Toronto.”
