Construction has officially begun on Phase 1 of the Innisfil Beach Park revitalization project, launching a multi-year plan to improve recreational amenities and protect natural features at one of the townโ€™s most popular public spaces.

The Town of Innisfil has awarded the contract for the design and construction of Phase 1 of the Innisfil Beach Park revitalization to Rutherford Contracting Ltd.

โ€œAfter years of careful planning and valuable input from our residents, it’s exciting to see the revitalization of Innisfil Beach Park take shape,โ€ Mayor Lynn Dollin said in a statement.

Major elements of Phase 1 include:

  • A new exit road intersecting 25th Sideroad, with an adjacent two-metre off-road trail for pedestrians and cyclists
  • A modern washroom pavilion replacing the existing trailer unit, featuring accessible facilities, universal washrooms, and outdoor showers
  • A turning circle for pick-up and drop-off access
  • Drainage upgrades using low-impact development (LID) swales
  • Expanded and enhanced beaches, including the merging of Beaches 3 and 4 and the reintroduction of public access to Beach 6
  • New natural playgrounds, volleyball courts, and shaded seating areas
  • Improvements to seating, trails and landscaping, including birdhouses, insect hotels and gardens
  • Two new pedestrian bridges and stormwater outlet enhancements
  • Upgrades to support future infrastructure, including water and electrical connections for potential pop-up retail

Beaches 2 through 6 will see expanded sandy areas, new shade structures, accessible beach paths, and native plantings such as willow trees and dune grasses.

The park will remain open throughout construction, with rolling closures in active work zones implemented to ensure public safety during the summer months.

Town council approved the final implementation plan in May 2023, as part of a long-term strategy involving nearly 50 phased projects to modernize the 62-acre waterfront park.
