“With the public release of the tender, we are now very close to getting construction of the new CT Suite addition underway” explained Michael Barrett, SBGHC President & CEO.

“As soon as we get the CT installed, patients from the Kincardine community will no longer have to travel to another community to access CT services.  We are looking forward to sharing more details about the construction in the near future.”

The tender was publicly released Dec. 22 and a formal announcement regarding the project is expected in the coming weeks.

Funding will be provided by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and the Government of Ontario and a $1 million contribution from Bruce Power.

“This is indeed good news,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce. “This initiative is a much- needed valuable addition to the local health care services in Kincardine and the surrounding community.”

Fundraising is now underway for the Phase 1 Redevelopment Project will modernize and expand the emergency department, improve diagnostic imaging, strengthen outpatient laboratory services and create a new decontamination room better able to serve the local nuclear industry’s emergency preparedness program.

A new CT suite will be located directly south of the main entrance, adjacent to the east side the existing hospital building, and will include a private CT suite, technologist area, patient prep room, wait space, change room, washroom and stretcher holding area.

“This will be an important next step in bringing this much needed service to the residents of Kincardine and surrounding communities,” said Becky Fair, Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation president. “A CT scanner will be an important diagnostic tool used by our physicians, and will attract much needed healthcare professionals to this area.”
