Construction ‘toys’ bring joy – and $30,000 – to CHEO

Ontario Construction News staff writer

Dozens of heavy construction equipment vehicles rumbled along the road in front of The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa on Sunday bringing some joy to children in the hospital as the institution said farewell to Mollypenny, its therapeutic clown.

Members of the National Capital Heavy Construction Association (NCHCA) and the Ottawa Construction Association (OCA) raised $30,000 to support the hospital through the Construction Community Cares group in the second annual drive-by parade.

Mollypenny (Ruth Croll when out of costume), has worked with the hospital for almost 20 years. She spent her final minutes waving to the children and adults along the short parade route in a red convertible Volkswagen Beetle carried on a flatbed heavy equipment transfer truck.
