Vanier Towers is a residential complex consisting of two buildings, 95 Hess Street South and 181 Jackson Street West in Hamilton. The 95 Hess building has 18 floors and the 181 Jackson building has 20 floors. Both buildings share a common underground parking garage with a single entry and exit for vehicles.
The current situation 95 Hess St. South and 181 Jackson St. West buildings are experiencing:
- Propping of doors by visitors, unauthorized persons and residents
- Tailgating: Where visitors, unauthorized persons and residents sneak in the building directly behind a resident that has used their fob to open a door
- Piggybacking: Where a resident uses his or her fob to open a door and knowingly allows another resident’s visitors, unauthorized persons to enter the building without using a fob. Building management has undertaken a project to address the current situation as described above.
The project includes:
- Expansion of the existing card access control system at the 95 Hess St. South and 181 Jackson St. West buildings as well as the Installation of maglocks to enable controlled access through specific doors
- Expansion of the existing video surveillance (CCTV) system at the 95 Hess St. South and 181 Jackson St. West buildings to enhance monitoring of activity at specific doors
- The control system will assist security guards and building operators in minimizing, propping of doors, tailgating and piggybacking.
