GO Train ridership is down by as much as 95 per cent as a result of COVID-19, and Metrolinx is using the opportunity to speed up some critical construction projects, including the Bay East Teamway at Union Station.

Teamways are the pedestrian walkways that run parallel to Union Station along York and Bay Streets.

Beginning Monday, May 25, Metrolinx closed the Bay East Teamway, including stairs leading to train platforms, to accelerate renovation work. Construction crews are upgrading ceiling, flooring, windows, doors and digital signage. The route will reopen in fall 2020.

When completed, the project will connect the new Union Station Bus Terminal with the new CIBC Square commercial tower at 141 Bay Street.

For customers’ safety, when exiting trains at Union Station, the exits at the east end of the platform will be closed for construction. These critical upgrades to the Bay East Teamway are part of Metrolinx’s Union Station revitalization work which also includes the opening of the new Bay Concourse later this year.
