The League of Champions has welcomed the Greater Toronto Sewer and Watermain Construction Association (GTSWCA) as their newest patron member during a sewer and watermain safety summit earlier this month.
There was an overwhelming response from industry members, filling the boardroom at the Orbitor Road offices to overflowing, proving that safety is “top-of-mind” for construction leaders, event organizers said.
“Building a culture of safety, watching out for the person next to you, and everyone going home safe at the end of the day,” said Craig Lesurf, LOC chair, presenting the League of Champions jersey. “The jersey symbolizes being part of a safety team, and the signatures are like a contract to be diligent about safety on the jobsite.
“Planning and hosting safety focussed events is the best way to showcase your organization’s commitment to building a safety culture and creating a network of support within the construction industry.”
The safety summit included a presentation by Kathy Martin from the IHSA on managing occupational mental health and safety risk and a closed-door session for GTSWCA to discuss recent incidents and concerns with like-minded industry leaders.
The League of Champions was established in 2016 to inspire and influence leaders to commit to and take action to improve safety culture at construction workplaces in Ontario.
Through awareness, collaboration, education, and promotion, the League of Champions is dedicated to health and safety excellence through a solutions-oriented approach and shared best practices.
