A 20-unit apartment building on Sanders Street in Exeter is on track for completion by late 2024, Huron County announced.

This project utilizes an existing county housing site and received funding through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative. The county is actively pursuing two housing developments to enhance affordable housing availability and combat homelessness in the region.

“We have been working incredibly hard to secure funding, manage construction, and prepare this building for occupation,” said Huron County Warden Glen McNeil. “I’m thrilled to see the progress we’re making in adding more housing units and addressing the local housing crisis.”

Designed by JPM Architecture Inc., the building meets the county’s “high performance building standard”, focusing on efficiency, durability, and sustainability. Key features include multiple barrier-free units designed for accessibility.

The choice of construction materials emphasizes longevity and ease of maintenance, ensuring the property remains in excellent condition for years to come.
