“Sustainability and climate action are fast becoming key market differentiators and drivers of economic competitiveness within our business community. At the same time, many businesses want to take action but don’t know how or where to start. The Mississauga Climate Leaders Program will support businesses in achieving their sustainability goals and position Mississauga as a leader in sustainable business growth,” Economic Development Office director Christina Kakaflikas said in a statement.

“Whether you’re new to the city, have lived here your whole life or are a business that calls Mississauga home – climate change affects us all. We’ve already begun to see the effects of these changes – changing weather patterns, food supply issues, deteriorating air and water quality, and property damage from intense storms and flooding,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Over the next 25 years, we aim to become a net-zero city.

“We’re working hard at the municipal level to prevent climate change by transforming our vehicle fleet, making our buildings more energy efficient, using renewable energy, and limiting waste. These actions are not enough on their own.”

The MCLP was created to provide local businesses with the support and recognition they need to take meaningful and profitable climate action. The program is focused on supporting pathways for local businesses to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, save energy and lower costs. Program benefits include:

  • Access to specialized training and support programs
  • Action-oriented workshops where businesses can hear from subject matter experts, network with peers and review local business case studies
  • Opportunities to raise the profile of local business initiatives
