Construction is underway at one of Kinston’s largest mixed-income housing projects.

Scheduled to be complete by 2024, the project will include 40 market housing units and 52 non-market units to support residents with rents ranging from rent-geared-to-income levels to 80 per cent of the average market rent.

The project is being developed on land purchased by the city to support development and construction of more affordable housing.

“I am thrilled to be breaking ground on one of the largest affordable housing projects the city has ever undertaken,” said Mayor Bryan Paterson. “This project at 1316 Princess Street will go a long in helping increase our community’s supply of affordable housing to get people into quality and affordable places to call home.

“The city’s ongoing partnership with the Kingston & Frontenac Housing Corporation’s to build new affordable housing supply will benefit residents for generations to come.”

Also, the project received one of the largest ever contributions from the city, in addition to the donated land.

In addition to the 92-unit building being developed by the KFHC, Kingston Co-Operative Homes Inc. is preparing to construct a 38-unit affordable housing project adjacent to this site.
