“For nearly 40 years, Earl Nichols Arena has been a cornerstone of our community, serving as a vital hub for sports and recreation,” said Peter Fragiskatos, MP for London North Centre. “This investment will not only ensure its continued role in our community but will also align with our broader climate change mitigation goals.”

Funding, with $2.35 million coming from the federal Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program and $1.19 million from the City of London, will finance the installation of a new refrigeration plant featuring cutting-edge heat pump technology and thermal battery storage.

“Improving the Earl Nichols Arena will help us make significant strides in reducing its environmental footprint while ensuring it remains a valuable resource for our community,” said London West MP Arielle Kayabaga.

The Earl Nichols Recreation Centre is the second facility in London to receive federal funding for green energy upgrades, following Kinsmen Arena’s $2.1 million grant two years ago.
