Construction is underway in Guelph on a facility that will be used to manufacture vaccines for chickens.

Maple Reinders Group announced on Twitter this week that they were chosen to build the 80,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant at 5410 Wellington Road 86, just north of the Guelph auto mall.

When completed, the plant – owned by CEVA Animal Health Inc. – will manufacture vaccines to protect poultry against coccidiosis, an intestinal disease found in birds and mammals.

Guelph/Eramosa council approved the application last year with councillors saying the facility will boost the local economy and benefit the agriculture sector.

The City of Guelph is providing water and sewer services and access to the property will be from Governors Road with CEVA covering the cost of extending the road.
