METRO begins construction on $400 million distribution centre project

METRO has broken ground for $400 million project to build new distribution centres.

The new, semi-automated Fresh Distribution Centre at 17 Vickers Rd. is part of the company’s plan to modernize its Ontario distribution network.

The project will modernize the supply chain infrastructure and includes a new fresh foods facility and a new frozen food facility. Both will feature the latest technology to provide improved product assortment, product freshness, selection accuracy and better service for customers and store network, Metro said in a statement.

The complete modernization program, which includes the new Fresh and Frozen Distribution Centres as well as administrative offices, are expected to total over 700,000 sq. ft.
