Mississauga is making it easier to get answers to questions about housing, growth and development by launching a new online guide to help simplify planning and development issues.

โ€œThe work we do in Mississaugaโ€™s planning and building division affects everyone who lives, works and visits the city,โ€ said Andrew Whittemore, commissioner, planning and building, City of Mississauga. โ€œWhile planning can be complicated, it doesnโ€™t have to be. Thatโ€™s why we developed our new Guide to City Planning and Development.

โ€œFrom housing targets to deciding where new buildings should go, itโ€™s designed to help answer the questions we hear most from our residents and guide them through the changes they are experiencing.โ€

The guide is organized around the following frequently asked topics:

  • What is city planning
  • Guiding city growth
  • How land gets developed
  • Development in your neighbourhood
  • Ways to get involved

It also provides resources like maps and data that city planners use to help guide their work.

Since housing is a top priority for Mississauga residents, the site includes:

  • an overview of the Cityโ€™s housing targets
  • the cityโ€™s role and plans for delivering affordable housing
  • information about how development applications get approved

โ€œMississauga is an incredibly dynamic city with new transit coming, waterfront revitalization underway and innovative businesses choosing to locate here,โ€ said Mayor Carolyn Parrish. โ€œAs we continue to grow โ€“ and work hard to get more housing built โ€“ itโ€™s important that we keep our residents up-to-speed. We want to make sure they understand how we plan for new development and how they can get involved.โ€
