The City of Mississauga is nearing the completion of an updated official plan, a framework that will guide growth and development over the next 25 years.
Proposed updates focus on creating more housing and promoting mixed-use communities. These changes are in response to both local needs and new provincial legislation that impacts planning across Ontario.
As the city prepares to finalize the plan, several opportunities are planned to share information and collect feedback on the drafts:
- Planning and Development Committee update – Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. at city hall
City staff will present an update on the proposed Official Plan changes at the Planning and Development Committee meeting, which will be open to the public. This session will include a review of the changes based on feedback received earlier this year. - Attend in person or join the live stream on the city’s website. Instructions for registration will be included in the meeting agenda.
- Virtual Public Meeting – January 2025
In January, city staff will host a virtual public meeting to provide an overview of the draft Official Plan, highlight the most significant updates, and gather additional input from the community. The draft will be available online ahead of the meeting, and feedback can be submitted at any time.
Additional information about the January 2025 virtual meeting will be posted in the new year. To receive updates directly, visit the Official Plan Review engagement website and subscribe for project notifications. The virtual meeting will also be recorded and available for later viewing.

Public consultation has helped shape the new plan in the following areas:
- locations for new housing, commercial, and industrial developments
- necessary infrastructure like parks, schools, roads, and transit
- strategies for preserving the city’s culture, heritage, and environment
Once approved by city council and the Province of Ontario, the new Official Plan will guide the city’s development and policy decisions for the next decade.
