The Town of Newmarket has hired consulting firm TY Lin to update its water and wastewater comprehensive plan for sewers, watermains and pumping stations and considering projected growth through 2051.

“The Town of Newmarket is a growing community and we want to make sure our water and wastewater infrastructure will be able to service the needs of our residents and businesses,” said Mayor John Taylor. “It is also important that we take this opportunity to evaluate our current water and wastewater assets in order to maximize benefits, reduce risk and be able to identify gaps so that we can continue to provide safe and reliable levels of service to the community.”

Work will build on the Water and Wastewater Master Plan (March 2017), and look at all lands designated for development, plus an allowance to accommodate intensification within the existing development limits as established by the town, York Region and the Provincial Growth Plan.

The study will also identify preferred solutions based on engineering requirements, environmental considerations, public input and information gathered during the study, all in accordance with the Environmental Assessment Act and the Master Plan Class Environmental Assessment.

A virtual public consultation centre will be held Feb. 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
