The spirit of the holidays: NHBA spreads Christmas cheer to families

The Niagara Home Builders’ Association (NHBA) says its staff, directors and members have successfully joined forces with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of North and West Niagara and Project SHARE of Niagara Falls to put gifts under the tree and a hot meal on the table to those residents in need this holiday season.

In a statement, NHBA says it has partnered with BBBS to raise donations for the youth they provide support services to on a daily basis.

However, with tightening COVID19 restrictions, the association was unable to move forward with the event for the 2020 season. “However, with some creative collaboration, the NHBA was able to provide members with an opportunity to donate gift cards at two designated drop points throughout the month of November,” the statement says.

The NHBA has also been working closely with Project SHARE of Niagara Falls over the past two years. The association has organized back to school supply drives, and this year they participated in their “Fill the Virtual Bus Challenge” which accepts monetary donations as well as toys, food and gift cards for those who utilize the services of Project SHARE.

“Even COVID19 can’t stop our Members generosity,” said NHBA president Tony Alfieri. “We put out the call this year not really knowing what to expect, but the response was overwhelming and we are so thankful we are able to assist those families in need this holiday season.”

The NHBA generated $3,855 in gift card and monetary donations for the BBBS and $2,300 in monetary and gift card donations for Project SHARE, along with over 300 pounds of toys and food.

Long-standing NHBA member Enbridge Gas lent support to this year’s cause as well by offering a $1,000 matched donation to Project SHARE.

Both organizations were presented with the donations early this month, so families will be able to receive what they need in time for the holidays, the association said.
