Ontario’s government has committed $30 million to support 25 Connecting Links projects across the province during its 2019-20 program. Connecting Links funding covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs, including design, construction, renewal, rehabilitation, and replacement of municipal roads and bridges.

Twenty-three municipalities will receive funding through this year’s program. Funding maxes out at $3 million for each project.

“We are investing in municipal roads and bridges to keep families safe and to support jobs and growth in local communities,” said transportation minister Caroline Mulroney. “We are working with municipal partners to make investments to help ensure Ontario’s transportation system works for everyone.”

Some of the larger projects slated to receive funds are Belleville’s Saganoska Bridge Rehabilitation, Espanola’s Highway 6 reconstruction, and the reconstruction of a section of Scott Street in Fort Frances, all approved at the maximum $3 million in funding. Fort Frances has been approved for an additional $116,000 for the design for reconstruction on another section of Scott Street. Other projects that are receiving $3 million are in Sault St Marie, Wawa, Norfolk County, and Windsor. Several other projects are receiving $2 million-plus funds.

Applications for the 2020-21 Connecting Links program will be open later this year.

Connecting Links helps municipalities repair designated municipal roadways and bridges that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or boarder crossing. This includes 352 km of Ontario’s roads, throughout 77 municipalities.
