Ratification votes are to be held Thursday by unionized plumbers, pipefitters and other piping trades workers in Ontario on management’s latest contract offer.

“We have a tentative deal in place,” James Hogarth, business manager of the Ontario Pipe Trades Council and a negotiator with the Plumber/Pipefitter Employee Bargaining Agency said in an email Tuesday.

He said the agreement will be voted on by locals of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry, including Toronto-based UA Local 46, whose membership of more than 9,600 is comprised of plumbers, steamfitters and welders.

According to a memo on Sarnia-based UA Local 663’s website, the employee negotiating committee is recommending acceptance of the offer, with details to be discussed at the meetings.

UA Local 663 business manager Ross Tius in an earlier April memo said contractors had proposed wage hikes totalling 8 per cent over three years, calling the offer unacceptable in light of the inflationary pressure facing members and advocating for a strike mandate.
