RAIC announces 2025 annual award recipients

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) has announced the recipients of its 2025 annual awards, celebrating outstanding contributions to Canadian architecture in practice, advocacy, research, and design.

This yearโ€™s RAIC Gold Medal, the instituteโ€™s highest honour, has been awarded jointly to Shirley Blumberg and Marianne McKenna in recognition of their significant and lasting impact on Canadian architecture.

Winnipeg-based firm 5468796 Architecture Inc. has received the Architectural Practice Award, which honours consistent excellence in the production of distinguished architecture.

In the area of public advocacy, the RAIC Advocate for Architecture Award has been awarded to Yosef Wosk, acknowledging his role as a champion of architecture through advocacy and patronage.

Two projects have been recognized under the RAIC Research and Innovation in Architecture Award:

  • Single Stair Exit Building Code Reform by LGA Architectural Partners (LGA-AP)
  • Western North York Community Centre | Advancing Net Zero Emissions Standards in Public Architecture by MJMA Architecture & Design

The Architectural Journalism and Media Award goes to Diamond Schmitt Architects for SET PIECES: Architecture for the Performing Arts in Fifteen Fragments, which explores the role of architecture in shaping cultural spaces.

Three sites were recognized with the Prix du XXe Siรจcle, an award presented jointly by the RAIC and the National Trust for Canada to celebrate enduring excellence in 20th-century Canadian architecture:

Imrie House / 6 Acres in Edmonton, designed by Wallbridge & Imrie Architects (1957)

Grand Falls Historic District in Grand Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador (1909)

Yorkton Psychiatric Hospital in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, designed by Izumi Arnott and Sugiyama (1964)

RAIC awards highlight excellence and innovation across the profession, while also aiming to increase public awareness of architectureโ€™s cultural and societal value.
