Infrastructure Ontario and Lakeridge Health have announced the issue of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to design, build and finance the Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment project.
It’s the first step in the process to select a team to deliver the project. Submissions will be reviewed to shortlist teams with the required design and construction experience applicable to this project, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and complexity. Shortlisted teams will then be invited to respond to a request for proposals (RFP), which is expected to be released in early 2025. Interested companies must register on merx.com to download the RFQ.
Lakeridge Health announced in May that Stantec had been selected to lead the planning, design, and compliance (PDC) aspects of Lakeridge Health’s Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment.
The redevelopment project will be one of Lakeridge Health’s largest redevelopment projects to date.
As a key partner and collaborator, Stantec’s PDC team will work hand-in-hand with Lakeridge Health to further develop the site master plan and prepare key documents, including project-specific design output specifications. The PDC team will also monitor construction progress and provide coordination and oversight during the commissioning and completion of the project.
The expansion will double the size of the current hospital, enabling increased health care capacity in Durham Region. It will expand critical care services and introduce modern, patient-centred facilities including private rooms, ambulatory care clinics and a haemodialysis centre.
A multi-phase redevelopment will build a more connected system of care across the region and includes projects to expand Lakeridge Health’s hospital campuses in Bowmanville, Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Pickering.
“This investment in the health of communities throughout the Durham Region is truly a game-changer. It will enable Lakeridge Health to continue to advance our vision of a comprehensive, integrated system of care. It’s a strong vote of confidence in our mission to Empower People to Live their Best Health,” said Cynthia Davis, president and CEO, Lakeridge Health. “Today’s announcement means our rapidly growing and diverse population will be able to receive exceptional and specialized care close to home, in a safe and timely manner, within and beyond the walls of our Lakeridge Health hospitals.
“It also means more jobs in the health care sector and will help us recruit and retain additional talented clinicians and staff. These investments will certainly lead to an improved quality of life for residents in our region.”
