Simcoe County construction associations are preparing for the annual Barrie Construction Day – a program to introduce construction industry careers to high school students from both the Simcoe County District School Board and the Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic School Board.

The program next Tuesday (Oct. 7) will give students a chance to see the work at both civil and commercial sites in Barrie.

Sponsoring organizations include the Barrie Construction Association (BCA), the Ontario Construction Career Alliance and The Simcoe County Heavy Construction Association.

Students will be given full personal protective equipment and will receive on-site safety training before starting their visits.

“We will be providing the students additional learning with a tour of the Lafarge
Canada quarry complete with heavy equipment simulators and we will have industry experts on hand throughout the day to explain the benefits of choosing construction as a career,” the BCA said in a news release.

Students will be on construction sites between 9:15 a.m. and 12:15 pm., then the will travel to the quarry for lunch and tour, and then will return to their respective schools at 1:30 p.m.
