Town of Innisfil seeks feedback on land and lake plan

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The Town of Innisfil is requesting public feedback on its draft parks and recreation update and Lake Simcoe enjoyment strategy, also known as the land and lake plan.

Community members are invited to review a virtual presentation on the plan and share their questions and comments before May 12, 2023.

Specific aspects of the plan include goals and objectives for:

  • Building new parks
  • Upgrades to current parks and trails
  • Improving Lake Simcoe access
  • Enhancing recreation services, programs, and events

“We know access to parks and recreation opportunities is essential to enhancing the quality of life for our residents and visitors,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Our community’s input will help to finalize the plan and ensure we have built a great strategy for managing our parks, waterfront and recreation programs moving forward.

“We are committed to providing everyone in Innisfil with a variety of accessible options for physical activity, social interaction, and connection with nature.”

Two complementary long-term plans will be produced, including an update of the 2016 active Innisfil parks and recreation master plan and a new Lake Simcoe enjoyment strategy. They will guide the land-based and water-oriented recreation services provided by the town over the next 30 years. The goal is to promote the use and enjoyment of Innisfil’s parks and recreational areas, while setting a vision for the future of these spaces.

A 20-minute video covers the plan’s key components. This virtual presentation, along with the full draft plan, is available to view at getinvolvedinnisfil.ca/landlake. Comments and questions can be posted directly to the project page.

The land and lake plan is expected to go to Innisfil council for approval in August 2023.
