Unionized apprentices will participate in the National Apprenticeship Competition in Ottawa from Thursday through Saturday.

The competition, hosted by the Carpenters District Council of Ontario Locals 93 and Local 241, together with the Millwrights Regional Council Ontario Local 1410, is expected to attract about 50 contestants from across the country.

Participating crafts include carpentry, interior systems, millwrights, floor covering and scaffolding.

“It is truly and exciting event that showcases Canada’s most exceptional apprentices allowing them to demonstrate their superior craftsmanship and pride in the trade,” the event organizers say. “Each contestant will write a theory exam and complete a practical project over the course of three days.” The finalists will be announced at an awards dinner at the Brookstreet Hotel on Saturday.
