A $20 million Hilton Garden Inn is under construction in Sudbury.
Ironwood Management Corp. is overseeing the 120-room structure for owner Urban Enterprises Corp from Calgary, Northern Ontario Business reports.
“The entire site has about 400 parking spaces to service the hotel and retail businesses there, including The Keg,” Ironwood CEO Tyler McDiarmid said in an email to the business publication. “The Keg property is owned but not operated by Urban Enterprises. The hotel itself is actually a joint venture between Urban Enterprises and FHC Hotels & Resorts Inc.”
“There are lots of great things happening in Greater Sudbury, many of which are driving the market’s very high demand for hotel rooms,” he wrote. “We see no immediate slowdown in the demand for hotel rooms and we believe the Hilton Garden Inn is well positioned to stay the market leader for a long time.
“We believe (the Hilton) will be the most impressive hotel in the market.”
The business publication reported that there had been talk that Hilton was interested in building along the new arena and casino in the Kingsway Entertainment District (KED). However, a legal battle has delayed the project – and apparently sapped the chain’s interest.
McDiarmid didn’t comment about the KED, confirming “this site (near the Keg) is the only development currently in Sudbury.”
