Brantford sees robust industrial construction in March

The City of Brantford issued 118 building permits with a total construction value of about $27 million.

“The rise in permit numbers and construction values for the month of March is the start of what will prove to be a very busy construction year for the City of Brantford,” said Andy McMahon, Chief Building Official and Director of Building Services, City of Brantford.

The largest increase occurred in the Industrial sector of construction. A total of four permits were issued with a total construction value of $19.531 million. An increase also occurred in the Residential (Accessory, Alterations, Additions) sector of construction with a construction value of $4.981 million for 104 permits issued.

Noteworthy permits issued in March include a permit issued to Upfield Canada Inc. at 8-10 Craig Street with a construction value of $18 million as well as a permit issued to Aldershot Homes Limited for the construction of townhouses at 40 Heath Street with a construction value of $1.2 million. A $1.5-million industrial permit was also issued for Gustave Maire Canada Inc. at 406 Elgin St.

Highlights from the report include:

  • 118 building permits were issued in March, having a total construction value of $27 million.
  • Four building permits were issued in March within the Industrial sector having a total construction value of $19.5 million.
  • 104 building permits were issued in March in the Residential (Accessory, Alterations, Additions) sector of construction which had a total construction value of $5 million.
  • 1 building permit was issued in March within the Multiple Residential (New) sector having a total construction value of $1.2 million.

In Brant County, 178 building permits were issued for the first quarter of the year (January to March) with a value of $26.3 million.

Residential construction accounted for the greatest project value in the county, with 29 permits issued with a value of $18.7 million.
