City of Brantford celebrates the TH&B Crossing Bridge Revitalization project

The revitalization of the TH&B Crossing Bridge in Brantford was completed in November; a full replacement of the wood deck.

“I am thrilled to officially recognize the reopening of the revitalized TH&B Crossing Bridge,” says Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “On behalf of Council, I would like to recognize the dedicated and creative volunteers who painted the beautiful murals for all to enjoy as well.

To extend the life of the TH&B Crossing Bridge, the city approved the revitalization project in two phases. Phase one included the highly successful TH&B Public Art Project, where local community members painted murals covering the 112 interior bridge panels.

The public art project was pursued to instill a sense of pride over the landmark in Brantford’s trail network and address vandalism previously found on the bridge. Painting on the bridge concluded in June 2023 and more than 150 community participated.

Fall 2021, an Environmental Assessment recommended that TH&B Crossing Bridge undergo minor rehabilitation to extend its service life.

In Summer 2022, city council unanimously endorsed a proposal to issue a call for submissions for community members to participate in a unique public art project.

Phase two included a full replacement of the bridge’s wood deck and minor steel repairs, to ensure a sturdy foundation that will support connections across the Grand River for the remainder of the bridge’s service life.
