CSC Toronto Building Expo to be national online event on Feb. 24

Ontario Construction News

The annual Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) Toronto chapter Building Expo will be online this year – allowing viewers across the country to participate in what had become a cornerstone annual event in the Greater Toronto Area.

The day-long Feb. 24 event, formerly known as the chapter’s table-top trade show, has taken place for 43 years – with previous years’ programs occuring at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).

COVID-19, of course, has changed the rules, providing “a new opportunity to take the experience across Canada by offering the Building Expo on a virtual platform,” the CSC chapter says in a statement. “The Expo continues the tradition of being free for attendees, offering CEU seminars, access to industry experts, and an opportunity to socialize.

“This year’s theme is Technology in Construction and the speakers will address experiences, advancements and future opportunities for the construction industry to build faster, safer, and better.”

The keynote speaker, architect Jakob Stromann-Andersen, will discuss the “next generation of daylight analysis.”

The speakers’ description says: “How can Generative Design impact daylight design? Can a generative algorithm create better daylight design? In the time it takes for a person to create one scheme, a computer can generate thousands, along with the data to quantify exactly which design performs best. For designers, a generative algorithm provides not only insight into the dynamics of daylight, but a common language that allows a collaborative workflow among planners, architects, engineers, developers, and municipalities. Jakob will show how we can run and explore a multitude of daylight designs, sort through the iterations and identify the best ones, all while providing detailed analysis for each proposal.”

There is no charge to attend the virtual event from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
