Quinte West Trent Port Marina Breakwater System Supply & Installation

Industry Name: Water/Marine Construction

Trade Name: Docks/Piers/Breakwaters

Project Street: Various/Multiple

Project City: Quinte West

Detail Of Services: Three floating breakwaters at the Trent Port Marina were installed when the marina was built in 2015. These structures were installed to shelter the marina from wave action and are composed of modules, each made of a solid polystyrene core encapsulated in a concrete casing, all connected by timber wales along the longitudinal faces of the breakwater. The wales are tied together with steel tie rods that go through the wale and concrete module to the opposite face. This system holds the modules together to form a continuous breakwater. The breakwaters are anchored in position using chains secured to bedrock on the lake bottom. Several components of the existing breakwater system are failing or have failed. Significant damage and cracking have been observed throughout the breakwater systems causing deterioration of the concrete and polystyrene core. The work included is everything required to design, prepare and produce all submissions identified in the Specifications including but not limited to the wave climate report, design calculations for all components of the breakwaters, functional performance (wave attenuation) calculations, shop drawings, winterization plan, removal of the old floating breakwaters, operation manual, and all closeout documents. The work also includes three meetings with City staff, and training for the City’s staff on the maintenance, operation, and winterization of the floating breakwater system. Payment will be made at the lump sum price indicated in the Schedule of Quantities and Unit Prices. Compensation shall be for all materials, equipment and labour to complete the work. For progress payment, 75% of the lump sum will be paid upon submission of satisfactory all submissions excluding the operation manual and other closeout documents. The balance will be paid upon satisfactory submission of the operation manual, closeout documents, and completion of staff training. Refer to all Sections and Performance Specification – Floating Breakwater.
