Domm Construction to complete community hall renovations

Clearview Township has hired Domm Construction to complete renovations at the Avening Community Hall, after terminating a previous contractor last November.

Council approved the $1.4 million contract with Domm – the second-place bidder on the project in the spring of 2023. A $1.35 million contract with IHC General Contracting was terminated in November.

Work includes adding accessible washrooms and a kitchen to the facility, installing a commercial fire suppression system in the kitchen, upgrading the septic system, and paving the parking lot.

Council is planning renovations at six community halls to potentially meet Facility Accessibility Design Standards (FADS). RJ Burnsides and their architects were hired to update the conceptual designs with modified FADS renovations and other requested improvements.

Construction started in June 2023 at the Avening site, but the contract was terminated in late November 2023 with the company demobilizing from the property by Dec. 1.

To protect the facility from winter weather, the Township hired Domm Construction Ltd. to winterize the facility during the week of Dec 4, 2023.

Clearview Township has presently paid $162,379 for materials and work performed thus far on the Community Centre. There will be additional costs associated with the unanticipated effects required by the architect and engineering team to review and address any deficiencies, which is estimated to be approximately $44,620.00 as of end of December 2023. Domm is expected to start work at the end of February.
