Champion of the Crescent 2023, B.C.’s only annual charity stand-up paddle board event in support of youth mental health programs raised $265,200, event sponsor EllisDon announced. During the event, teams of four paddlers competed in water relays for a chance to win the coveted Champion of the Crescent trophy. Over 250 participants took part in the relays.

“We were honoured to have the opportunity to be the presenting sponsor of this amazing event. Together, we are making a significant impact on the well-being of our youth. By investing in their mental well-being, we are nurturing resilient individuals who will shape a brighter tomorrow,” said David McFarlane, Chief Operating Officer & Executive Vice President Western Construction, EllisDon.

All proceeds from the event will go towards funding music, art and recreational therapy programs at Surrey Memorial Hospital. They will also support a new Child and Youth Mental Health Transition Team, the first of its kind in B.C., which bridges the gap between hospital and community services, allowing healthcare workers to better care for children and youth with complex needs, and their families, at one of the most vital points in their healthcare journey.
