The Request for Proposals (RFP) stage has closed with four bidders now competing to take on the redevelopment project of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital site.

The new hospital aims to become a state-of-the-art health care facility tailored to meet the current and future demands of the local community, featuring enhanced equipment and facilities such as a 24-hour emergency department, helipad, surgical suite, dialysis unit, and other specialized departments.

All four companies shortlisted and invited to submit bids for the project in November —Ledcor Construction Limited, M. Sullivan & Son Limited, Pomerleau Inc., and Quinte Care Partners—submitted proposals by the deadline.

Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith said the release of the call for tenders means Prince Edward County is “incredibly close” to its long-awaited, state-of-the-art, full-service hospital. “I’ve been fully committed to this project throughout my 12 years at Queen’s Park, and I’m so pleased to see this dream will soon be realized. This beautiful new hospital will provide high-quality care in the County for generations to come,” he said.

Proposals will now be assessed, and a winning bidder is expected to be announced this summer. A fairness monitor is overseeing the entire procurement process.

“This brings us one step closer to starting construction on the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital,” said Barbara McConnell, PECMH Foundation Board Chairperson. “The closure of the RFP process means we’ll soon have a construction team in place for our first-of-its-kind hospital.

quinte hospital“We eagerly anticipate working with our project planning partners to bring our vision to life. We can’t wait to introduce the successful construction team to the community as we begin the next phase towards the new hospital’s 2027 opening.”
