After missing for six weeks, Boomer the dog was reunited with his owner thanks to the quick thinking of a Crosslinx construction worker.
Simon Chadwick says his three-year-old lab-mix named Boomer went missing in late October after he got loose from a relative’s home in Toronto.
Chadwick was beginning to give up hope when he got a call from Toronto Animal Services.
Crosslinx construction site supervisor Scott Shaw was arriving to start his day at the Cedarvale Station construction site for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT last week when he noticed the small black dog hiding under some decking.
Shaw called Toronto Animal Services for help.
“Scott and other workers had seen a very skinny scared dog hiding in one of the new tunnels, and called us for help,” said Sally, animal services officer. “They also connected the dots with a sign one of them had seen about a similar-looking dog that went missing in early October and asked about a possible family for this scared and skinny boy.”
Boomer had been adopted eight months ago and had lived as a street dog previously in Texas.
When the dog owner, Celeste, arrived at the construction site, Shaw escorted her to the tunnel area where the Boomer was last spotted.
“Everyone saw a terrified, thin black dog that was covered in mud. Celeste, with lots of emotion, identified her lost dog, Boomer.”
The animal services officer was able to bring the dog out his hiding place and reunite him with the owner.
“We are grateful to Scott and his eagle-eyed co-workers for spotting Boomer for making sure stories like this have happy endings,” Sally said.
Boomer is now safely back home in Oakville.
“He was really, really smelly. He was really, really tired,” owner Simon Chadwick told CTV News. “We finally got our boy back. I just opened the crate and he just, we had some cuddles and that was a big relief.”
