Meet Jessica Vazquez – a BOLT Financial Awards recipient and the first featured youth in BOLT’s new #BuildingIndustryTalent segment

Jessica Vazquez says BOLT’s support “not only allowed me to focus on my family and enjoy my educational experience, but it opened the door for volunteering, networking and mentoring, which subsequently led to summer job opportunities at Tridel.”

Jessica graduated from George Brown College with her Honours Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management. She just started her new role as an Electrical BIM Modeler at Hammerschlag & Joffe Mechanical & Electrical Consulting Engineers.

“The BOLT scholarship impacted my future significantly in many positive ways, allowing me to have unique work experiences in various sites and at Tridel head office. Certainly, BOLT changed my life to a brighter future for me and my family,” she said.

The BOLT Financial Awards are offered to students pursuing construction-related college or university programs. Successful candidates receive $3,000 or $5,000 for the school year, depending on the type and length of their program. Applications are currently open for the 2021/2022 academic year. You can find more information at boltonline.org/awards. To date, BOLT has provided over 420 scholarships totaling $1.3 million.

The BOLT Charitable Foundation was founded by Tridel to help inspire a new generation of construction industry professionals. The mandate is to assist under-resourced youth connect to careers in construction through raising awareness, career exploration, and financial support for skilled training and post-secondary education.
