Sometimes it is just good to have fun.

Members of the National Capital Heavy Construction Association (NCHCA) enjoyed a relaxing evening at the annual BBQ Shine & Show last Thursday.

Besides showing off some of their heavy equipment, members brought their own carefully restored and maintained cars, trucks and motorcycles – but most importantly, they enjoyed refreshments and socializing before a steak and lobster dinner on the warm summer evening.

This was all about fun, though NCHCA executive director Kathryn Sutherland joined health and safety co-ordinator Trisha MacKay and health and safety administrator Earlana Lavergne, both from Taggart Construction Ltd. to encourage nomination’s for the association’s safety award program.

They also handed out “Stay Safe. Stay Back” stickers to be placed on the rear of construction vehicles, designed to warn cyclists that it is dangerous to drive too close. There have been several recent cycling fatalities through accidents involving big trucks.

R.W. Tomlinson Limited provided the site for the get-together. Equipment sponsors include J.D. Brule Inc., Ottawa D-Squared Construction Ltd., Rush Truck Centres of Canada and SafeBore Inc.

Ontario Rental and Supply sponsored the dinner, while Cooper Equipment Rentals Ltd. was the beer and wine sponsor.

Other sponsors included: Aqua Drain Sewer Services, Bradley’s Commercial Insurance, M CON Products Inc. and Wolseley Waterworks Group.
