The Ontario Government is investing a total of $40 million into the construction of two new state-of-the-art Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachments – one in Orillia and the other in Parry Sound.

Both detachments are part of the OPP Modernization – Phase 2 project, a $182-million investment announced last year. The investment will replace nine ageing facilities across the province that no longer meet the requirements of modern police operations.

The 33,000-sq.-ft. Orillia detachment will be located at 1 University Av. in City of Orillia, while the 18,000-sq.-ft. West Parry Sound detachment will be located at 1 North Rd., Parry Sound. Both construction projects are expected to reach substantial completion by late 2020.

Each detachment will provide space and infrastructure to support changing technology requirements, spacious and secure evidence vaults, several holding cells as well as CCTV and other advanced security features.

Each detachment will be fully accessible and designed to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Standard – the standard that recognizes buildings with reduced environmental impacts.
