Wellington County has awarded a $1.5 million contract to Cox Construction Ltd. for the pavement overlay on various county roads.
Cox submitted the lowest of six tenders for supply and placement of about 14,000 tonnes of asphalt, 4,000 tones of shoulder gravel and the milling of various county roads. Bids ranged from $1.5 million to $1.9 million.
Work includes placing new asphalt pavement overlaying the existing asphalt surface which is a cost-efficient long term option for repairing the roadway of minor surface damages such as cracks, rutting, depressions caused by large vehicles, poor drainage and potholes.
County Council had approved a $1.8 million budget from the roads capital reserve and the Canada Community Building fund.
