Bridge construction starts as Windsor ponders improvements for Bradley Park

Construction is underway on a new multi-use bridge for crossing the Little River municipal drain in Windsor and is expected to be completed in May, weather permitting. The east-end park will be closed during construction to ensure work crews are able to work as safely and quickly as possible.

When complete, the new 35-metre bridge crossing will connect the two existing trails on either side of Little River.

“I am very excited for the new bridge construction in Teedie Park to begin,” said Ward 7 councillor Jeewen Gill. “This bridge is going to be a great new addition to provide residents with a connection between two trails which will serve as a great asset in leisure and healthy attractive developments in our area.”

The City of Windsor is now inviting input on another upcoming project – the renewal of Bradley Park, which has provided recreation opportunities in the west end for over 80 years.

The conceptual design is available and the Bradley Park Improvement Survey is open until March 5, 2021.

“The city is committed to continuously improving our parks and green spaces,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Bradley Park is in the heart of Sandwich Towne and is at the center of a lot of community renewal.”

While future capital funding was not scheduled to be allocated for this project until after 2025, Ward 2 Councillor Fabio Costante prioritized this park through a significant contribution of ward funds to achieve short-term improvements, which are slated to begin later this year.

“Shortly after being elected and after much consultation with the community, I made it my mission to prioritize Bradley Park by advocating that it be part of the City’s capital plan and by allocating my ward funds to the park,” Costante said.

“Thankfully, council did approve Bradley Park in the capital plan at our 2020 budget meeting, slated for 2025 and beyond, and as mentioned, I will be investing my ward funds this year recognizing the importance of the park.”

Bradley Park is a 2.6-acre neighbourhood park in west Windsor and is one of the numerous park initiatives underway.
