A significant milestone was reached in April on the Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge in Vaughan, as crews successfully installed the bridge girders – large horizontal beams – over Highway 400, linking the future bridge to Canada Drive and America Avenue.

Expected to be completed in 2026, the bridge will enhance Vaughan’s transportation network, help alleviate traffic and allow residents to travel seamlessly from one community to another.

The City of Vaughan awarded the contract to EllisDon Civil Ltd. to undertake the detailed design and construction of the bridge. The total project construction cost for the bridge is $25 million with $9 million coming from the city, $8.5 million from York Region and $7.5 million from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.

“The Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge is a key infrastructure development project that will improve our quality of life, and construction is already underway,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca. “This new bridge will link two communities on either end of Highway 400, enhance our overall transportation network, allow residents to travel seamlessly by car, bike or foot and create another critical east-west connection that will help reduce traffic in our city.”
