Revera’s first long-term care redevelopment project in Ontario is about to get underway in London.

Dignitaries and employees gathered recently at the current facility for a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Elmwood Place

“Revera is proud to be working alongside the Ministry of Long-Term Care in redeveloping Elmwood Place, and all of our 32 older long term care homes, to help meet the increasingly complex needs of current and future generations of seniors,” said Thomas G. Wellner, president and CEO of Revera.

“We’re delighted to be building a bright, spacious, modernized environment for Elmwood Place, where there is such a great spirit of community and a long track record of care and service to seniors.”

The new Elmwood Place will be at 3400 Morgan Avenue, close to the current location, and is scheduled to open in 2021. With 50 additional bed licenses allocated the new facility will accommodate 128 residents with 60 per cent private rooms.

It is being built to the latest design standards, with more natural light, wider hallways, better airflow and temperature control and more space for amenities.

In addition to approximately 200 short-term construction jobs, once the new home opens it is expected to employ more than 130 people including current Elmwood Place staff and new hires.

“I want to thank Revera for their continued partnership with our government as we work together towards our shared goal of increasing capacity and ensuring high quality care for all residents,” said Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care.

“The new and expanded Elmwood Place will help to ease pressure on hospitals and will become a vibrant and integral part of the London community.”

London Mayor Ed Holder says the renovations will go a long way towards providing increased amenities, greater comfort and more space.
“All of us owe a great debt to our seniors’ population,” he said in a media release.

“Investments such as this go a long way towards ensuring this latest chapter of their lives is one that is truly memorable and enjoyable.”
