The provincial government on Friday filed changes to regulations granting an extra year for the validity of working at heights training in response to the COVAID-19 pandemic.

The new rules extend to four years from three the validity of training completed between Feb. 28 and Aug. 31 2017.

Retraining would be difficult under current rules restricting non-essential businesses and requiring social distancing.

A government spokesperson said in a statement that the working-at-heights training of more than 120,000 workers was set to expire over the next six months.

This training is mandatory, but many training providers have shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak,” the spokesperson wrote. “The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development is giving workers in the construction sector an extra year to renew their training if they work at heights.”
