Peel Region is receiving $16.1 million from the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure to support the Mayfield Road Widening Project, the province announced Tuesday.
The project also includes significant stormwater infrastructure upgrades, new traffic signalization, and multi-modal features such as active transportation, pedestrian, and transit facilities. It demonstrates forward-looking planning as part of a complete corridor transformation designed to support growth and meet the community’s evolving transportation needs.
Construction is underway and expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Visit Peel’s website for detailed project information.
The funding, delivered through the Housing-Enabling Core Servicing Fund under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, will help expand Mayfield Road from two to six lanes between Hurontario Street and Chinguacousy Road. The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion and supporting population growth and housing development in Brampton and Caledon.
“Peel Region is proud to be an active and supportive partner to the province,” said Nando Iannicca, chair and CEO of Peel Region. “Together, we are investing in the infrastructure needed to build more homes for our community.”
The project includes stormwater upgrades, new traffic signals, and multi-modal infrastructure such as pedestrian, cycling and transit facilities.
“The expansion of Mayfield Road will reduce gridlock and lay the groundwork for housing growth, giving Brampton families more commuting options and places to live,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure.
The Housing-Enabling Core Servicing Fund is part of Ontario’s broader effort to improve infrastructure to support new housing across the province, including investments in roads, bridges and culverts.
“With this provincial funding, we’re doing more than just building roads — we’re building stronger communities,” said Brampton North MPP Graham McGregor.
Construction is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
“Expanding Mayfield Road is about more than traffic flow — it’s about unlocking housing and preparing Brampton for the future,” said Amarjot Sandhu, MPP for Brampton West.
