The city of Brampton has approved its new Official Plan through 2051, which will guide the development of the city as it transitions from a population of 700,000 to more than a million people over the next three decades.

The new plan lays out a vision for a more inclusive, sustainable, and vibrant city and includes policies to guide growth and development in a way that supports the needs of current and future residents, businesses, and industries.

Some of the plan’s key features include new housing and employment opportunities, investments in infrastructure and services, and the protection of natural green spaces and heritage resources.

The plan also seeks to promote inclusivity and diversity, and to create a city where everyone has access to opportunities for growth and success.

“As our city continues to undergo a remarkable transformation, our new Official Plan, the Brampton Plan, is a significant milestone for Brampton,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement.

“With a visionary outlook and carefully designed plan to meet the evolving needs of our diverse and dynamic community, we remain committed to providing critical services, modern infrastructure, and an unparalleled quality of life for our residents now and for generations to come.”

Brampton’s population has grown four times faster than Canada and five times the rate of Ontario’s population growth since 2001. This rapid growth is expected to continue over the next three decades, making the development of a new Official Plan essential for managing the challenges and opportunities of growth.

The Brampton Plan is the result of four years of studies and extensive public consultations. It is a living document that will be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that it continues to meet the evolving needs of the city and its residents, the statement says.
