The City of Brampton has completed the $25 million Balmoral Recreation Centre expansion project that nearly doubled the facility’s size.

Originally built more than 50 years ago, the centre has long served as a hub for community programming and recreation. The two-year project, which started in spring 2022, increased the facility from 17,000 square feet to approximately 35,000 square feet and included several modern upgrades aimed at improving accessibility, energy efficiency and programming capacity.
“For more than five decades, Balmoral has been a space where friendships have formed, goals have been reached and families have come together,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “Now, with state-of-the-art upgrades and expanded amenities, it will continue to serve as a space of connection and wellness for generations to come.”
Key features include a fully revitalised pool area with new lighting, a resurfaced and expanded deck, a sauna and upgraded change rooms. At a depth of 12 feet, it is now Brampton’s deepest pool, allowing the facility to support advanced aquatic leadership programmes.
The project also included a new multi-sport gymnasium with an International Basketball Federation (FIBA)-sized court, a new outdoor splash pad and playground, redesigned community rooms with flexible rental spaces, and updated HVAC and lighting systems that align with the city’s environmental goals.
To mark the reopening, the city will host a community celebration on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 225 Balmoral Dr. The free event includes formal remarks at 10 a.m., guided facility tours, drop-in activities, giveaways and family programming. Pre-registration for drop-in sessions is recommended but not required.
